A Wonderful Trip to Northern India

Over the years we have travelled to a number of countries

with various companies. Wild About India is easily the best travel company we have come across.

Having decided on a visit to India, we contacted Jo of Wild About India and asked her to propose a holiday for us to include birdwatching mainly, but also to experience Indian culture and visit the Taj Mahal and some Hindu temples. We also wanted to see some of the mammals, especially a wild Bengal Tiger. We said we would like to visit an Indian home and that we wanted good clean accommodation but were not seeking luxury hotels. We did not want to travel too much but to stay a few nights in each place. We did not want to travel alone preferring to be accompanied throughout the trip.

Jo spent a great deal of time talking to us and planning a holiday to meet our requirements. The outcome was that we had two excellent weeks moving from Delhi to Bharatpur, Agra, Chambal, Panna and then back to Delhi meeting our specification perfectly and at a very reasonable price.

We had good sightings of many superb birds and mammals including a large male tiger. The Taj Mahal was even better than we expected, as were the temples. Our guide, who was with us throughout, was exceptionally good. He took us to his home village which was one of the top highlights of our trip. His knowledge of birds was superb, he was friendly, pleasant and considerate throughout the holiday and his driving was perfect (quite something in India)!

India is a very beautiful country with wonderful wildlife. Opportunities for photography abound. The people are friendly, welcoming and gentle. We loved it and can’t wait to return.

I knew I’d enjoy this Indian holiday but would my wife Family holiday, near Corbett, India

and children? As it turned out, we all had a wonderful time, saw everything we hoped to see and more, brought back some wonderful photos and memories, and it really was fabulous.

We went to Jo with some ideas and she came back to us with more ideas and an itinerary that was possible and included places we’d never heard of. We wanted to do as much as possible in the time available; cultural things like the Taj Mahal and the palaces and forts at Jaipur, and see not just birds but also elephants and hopefully tigers. Of course Jo wasn’t able to guarantee us seeing a tiger but we did! Just one of many highlights, and though it was never going to be a no-nonsense birding trip I still saw loads.

Wild About India had the accommodation, meals, transport and guides sorted out for us so we went in confidence that we’d be avoiding the hassle and delays that could sabotage a trip like this. So, apart from getting peed on by a monkey, and even that wasn’t too bad, we had a brilliant family holiday. Many thanks.

India was always a bit of a concern for Celia & I. We knew the birds would be great but could we cope with both the hassle and the poverty? Fortunately we took the plunge and booked with Jo at 'Wild about India ' - India was so much more than either of us ever dreamed it could be. Not only the birds but the people, food, buildings and animals were incredible and the hassle and poverty that we witnessed was minimal once you were away from the big cities. Bharatpur was great but Chambal was exquisite - an absolute must-return place.

Our  tailor-made tour was exactly what we wanted with our own guide and driver who got us through and out the mayhem that is New Delhi as soon as possible but then didn't interfere with interactions in the rural areas. All the potential administrative problems were ironed out by Wild about India and our trip was as smooth as the Chambal River. We had comfort but not opulence (which was what we asked for), pleasant and often amusing interaction but no hassle, saw poverty but no obvious destitution in the rural areas, ate superb food with no untoward gut-effects and in general had a fantastic time. We will be back and will use Wild about India to organise everything

Our memories will last for a long time: of the multi-coloured saris in front of the gleaming white Taj Mahal; Indian Skimmer and Gharial on a misty sandbank on the Chambal River; bartering for mangoes, roasted peanuts and bangles at Jaitpur whilst Lesser vWhistling Duck called overhead; Rhesus Macaques mobbing a Crested Serpent Eagle at Bharatpur; a flock of forty Open-billed Storks soaring over the Maharaja's Palace at Bund Baretha; giving an impromptu lesson to a class of uniformed schoolkids on how to tell Intermediate from Great Egret near Agra [they seemed more impressed with my camera than their new-found knowledge]; finally sitting on the lawn at Chambal Safari Lodge drinking a cold Kingfisher beer by candlelight whilst Flying Foxes and Brown Hawk Owl came out of roost above our heads.

Our first trip with Wild About India was first rate and everything from planning the trip to getting back home couldn't have been easier. We took in Delhi, Jaipur, Keoladeo National Park, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra, Panna National Park, Khajuraho and Corbett National Park. There is no way we'd have managed to do and see so much without the help of the staff at Wild About India. Our nature guides were excellent birders and extremely good company. Our drivers were really friendly and accommodating. So if you are looking for a hassle-free trip of a lifetime, look no further!

We love India and its wonderful wildlife, visiting many times in the '80s and '90s.  It was hard work in those days to reach the best areas, find good places to stay and fight our way through endless bureaucracy.  If only we'd had the services of Wild About India and Asian Adventures!!  What a difference it has made - superb planning, lovely accommodation, comfortable vehicles with a great driver (Anil) and knowledgeable, friendly guides (Hari and Lokesh).  All we had to do was enjoy the wildlife and the food (freshly prepared and beautifully presented).  266 species of bird and 16 species of mammal in two weeks.  We're already thinking about the next trip.....

Alan Hudson and Carol Davies, recent travellers, commented "I cannot believe the speed and efficiency with which you produced a perfect itinerary for our wildlife and heritage holiday to Corbett and the Himalayan foothills. The holiday itself was fantastic; accommodation throughout was first class, and everything went like clockwork. The local guide, Chandra Bhan, was a credit to the Company – polite, helpful, professional, a safe driver, and a great birder; without whom we would have missed many sightings. Sincere thanks to staff at Wild About India and everyone associated with Asian Adventures for making this special trip even more special." November 2005
